Essay 4

After writing a brief personal critique of Great Expectations, I decided to summarize some other prominent literary pieces. Many had come and gone through my head, but the famous English play, William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet grasped my attention.
One thing to note, is that this play can be a comedy in many aspects. What is Romeo and Juliet about? Many people would answer to this question by saying, "Oh, its just a love story about two lovebirds." However, there is more to it.
First, Romeo and Juliet criticizes romance. Shakespeare adroitly represents Romeo and Juliet's love as a pure, unspoiled love, yet in the end, they both gove up their lives due to it. I believe the intention of Shakespeare was to criticize how everyone at that time, were rushing into everyday matters. The two lovers, only in their early teens, stubbornly believes they have met their perfect match, renounces their family, their beliefs, and rushs to a nearby church to get married.
Next, Romeo and Juliet can be a comedy of ideas. Through this play, Shakespeare shows that unnecessary collision of ideas can only bring detrimental effects. The Montague family (Romeo) and the Capulet family (Juliet) fights for a prolonged time because of an unnecessary grudge against each other. What was to result in this? The death of their dearly Romeo and Juliet.
Finally, Romeo and Juliet can be a black comedy. This may seem obvious when "black comedy" is defined. A black comedy is a piece that criticizes how an irrational structure can lead to nothing but harm.

Essay3

Since reading Charles Dicken's Great Expectations, many thoughts have been swimming in my head. Technically a story about an orphan's change on the point of view on life, it teaches the reader what the world is all about, the power of love. The plot is quite simple yet complicated. The orphan, Pip, had been abandoned by his parents and have been in the care of his sister, who welcomed him reluctantly ever since. Because of this gloomy childhood, Pip has not felt the importance and fervor of how love can give a huge impact on a person's life. Not only that, he becomes half-assaulted by an escaped prisoner who asks for help. Pip reluctantly follows and the prisoner promises to help him later in the future. Pip is sent to a project in making himself a gentlemen with the help of a mysterious benefactor. With this project as a success he regards his brother-in-law, who actually dearly cares for him, as shameful because he is not even close to being a gentlemen. However later on in the story, Pip discovers that his secret benefactor was actually the escaped prisoner that helped long before, and although he despises people with "un-gentlemen like" backgrounds, he lives on to please the prisoner to show his thanks and gratitude. During this procedure, Pip finally realizes that not anything in the world is more important that love and passion. In my opinion, Charles Dicken's is trying to connect with his readers and tries to tell us that the power of love is stronger than anything. Love is something very special. Without it, I believe life would be difficult and barren. With this knowledge, I close my book and carefully put it back in the shelf, where it may rest in peace knowing that it has touched another reader's heart.

Essay

A few days ago, I saw the last episode of Friends, the popular sit-com. Seeing this last piece of art overflowed my emotions. The last scene where the six friends leave Monica and Chandler's apartment, a place where these six friends shared each other so dearingly, left me in a state of knowing why friendship is an important thing.
Although Friends is a comedy, where basically it is all about laughter, they still have a undermining value of friendship and comradeship. Through the ten years of the episodes, these six friends helped each other hold on to life and endure the hardships.

Through the last episode, I realized how important friendship is, and I hope to seek its true value.

An Essay on how to keep pace

Now with SAT exams coming up menacingly, students (expecially seniors) are having hardships on enduring. During school, sleeping students can be seen every now and then, some tired of all the studying; others wanting to seek asylum in their dreams. The cure here is on being acknowledged of keeping pace.
First of all, regular sleep is a beneficial effect. Although students may find that it would be more efficient of alloting time on studying instead of sleeping, expecially seniors, a condition without sleep for a prolonged period can lead to many detrimental effects. The whole next day would be spent sleeping instead of studying. Your body would also hold on to a terrifying burden.
Next, a schedule is a good way to use time efficiently. Knowing how much time to put into a specific area is a good way to boost your concentration and time management. A good knowledge of time management can also come handy when off to college or in work.
And finally, eating a good and healthy diet three times a day keeps one body energetic and able to withstand the psycological hardships from studying. A healthy breakfast allows students to withstand the first few hours of school, and so on and so on.
The November SATs are one week away, and how we manage this one week will effect our grades when we recieve them a month from now. Good luck everyone and good luck to me.
